Car Rental Tips

Car Rental TipsBefore renting a car, here are some important car rental tips to bear in mind:

  • Always pay a great deal of attention to the car rental agency’s conditions and terms of the contract. Failing to pay attention to these provisos might cause you to end up being responsible for extra charges and/or fees.
  • Before driving off in the rental car, check your fuel gauge to see how much gas you have.  See if you need to return the car with a full gas tank.  A lot of car rental companies keep track of how much fuel is in the car before you rented it and expect that you return the car with the same fuel level.
  • Make sure that the car you rent meets your needs. As an example, can it hold all of the intended passengers and their luggage.  If you are particularly tall or short, does the seating accommodate you effectively?
  • Keep the rent-a-car company contact details safe somewhere.  If there’s an emergency, you want to be able to reach them.
  • When you pick up your rental car, take a look around it first.   Check it out for any signs of damage before you drive off.  Make note of any pre-existing damage and it will prevent you from being blamed for that damage when you return the car.
  • Read your rental agreement and get familiar with the exact amounts you are paying for insurance, taxes, additional driver charges, etc.
  • Car rental agreements usually take effect in 24-hour increments. Bringing your car back an hour late might turn into an additional day’s rental fee being charged.
  • Look at other car rental businesses to find the best deals. Take a look at price-shopper web sites to make sure you’re not overpaying.  Do not be afraid to negotiate on price with your selected rent-a-car company if they are slightly more conveniently located or have the specific car you’re interested in.
